Volcanos and university life at Geography lecture

The Geography department was pleased to welcome Josh Fawcett to Blackheath High School for the lecture 'Eyjafjallajökull: Reducing the Risk'. Josh is a second year undergraduate at UCL studying BSC Geography and a Geography Ambassador for the Royal Geographical Society.

Josh spoke to our GCSE and A-Level students about tectonic hazard management with reference to the Eyjafjallajökull eruption of 2010. He highlighted how the volcano was managed before, during and after the eruption. Our Year 11 and Sixth Form students also had the opportunity to ask Josh about life at university and the pros and cons of staying in London to study. The girls appreciated his honesty and it certainly has given them some food for thought!
