Governors

Chair of Governors - David Atterbury-Thomas

David Atterbury ThomasDavid has been associated with Girls' Day School Trust (GDST) over the last five years as Interim Director of Finance and Operations at Wimbledon, Notting Hill and Ealing, Oxford High School and the Royal High School Bath. He has also been Interim Financial Controller at Trust Office. Until last year, David was Chair of Welcare, a charity supporting disadvantaged families, parents and children in local communities.

As a longstanding trustee and volunteer in the charitable sector, he is currently Trustee of the Caxton Foundation and Treasurer of one of the City Churches. A Chartered Accountant, his early career was spent with Reed Elsevier and as Group Finance Director at Grayling, an international public relations and public affairs group. Now a consultant, he helps charities and businesses on strategy, financial organisation and reporting. David has been a Blackheath resident for 40 years.

Judith Eastaugh 

A graduate of Durham University, Judith practised as a solicitor for 25 years mainly working in the engineering industry.  She has two children, both of whom attended Blackheath High School. One has gone on to Bath University. Judith is active within the Westcombe Park community and is Co-chair of the Koinonia Federation of Schools in Greenwich.

Rania Hafez has over thirty years’ experience in education. Currently Programme Leader for the MA Education at the University of Greenwich, Rania is also co-chair of the Learning & Skills Research Network (London & South East) and a Fellow of the Muslim Institute. She was previously Director of Post Compulsory Education at the University of East London. Rania also sits on the Universities’ Council for the Education of Teachers’ (UCET) CPD Committee.

In 2008 Rania founded ‘Muslim Women in Education’ a professional network for educationalists and researchers. In addition to her academic work Rania is a regular political and cultural commentator whose media credits include the BBC, Levant TV, and the Islam Channel.

Dr Sajid Humayun

Sajid humayunSajid is School Governor with specialist interests in transition to Junior School, transition to higher education, and child and adolescent mental health.  

He is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Greenwich and Programme Leader for MSc Child and Adolescent Psychology and MSc Psychology (Research - Focused on the relationship between child and adolescent mental health, parenting and genetics and on evaluating interventions for child and adolescent mental health problems).

Kate JamesBlackheath high school photo

Kate joined the Governing Board in 2016. She was previously a solicitor specialising in professional Indemnity litigation. She thereafter worked with a charity providing education and support to vulnerable inner city teenagers where she obtained a higher education teaching qualification and an examination assessment qualification.

Whilst there, Kate obtained experience in teaching, training and the mentoring /reviewing of teaching staff. Kate was previously a governor at Babington House School where she sat on the curriculum, development, policies and marketing committees.

Kate has also been a magistrate since 2006 and was previously the Deputy Chair of the South East London Magistrates Association. She also makes presentations on the criminal justice system to schools in South East London.  Kate would like to use her varied experience to help the school build upon its excellent reputation in preparing girls to find their place in life and meet the challenges of a rapidly developing world with confidence and consideration for others. 

Liz Little

Liz littleHaving spent the early part of her career in advertising agencies, Liz has worked for Dr Foster, a leader in global health data, since 2009. The business supports healthcare providers and commissioners, predominantly in the NHS, to improve their performance via the better use of data.
Prior to studying at the University of Durham, Liz was a student at Birkenhead High School and enjoyed the benefits of an all girls' school education herself. Having recently become a mother, she is delighted to have the opportunity to contribute what she can back to the GDST at Blackheath.

Rebecca Russell 

Rebecca russellRebecca has worked for the leading global executive search firm, Odgers Berndtson, since 2007, supporting independent schools and universities to appoint senior leaders, including Vice-Chancellors, Heads, CFOs, Bursars and Governors. She has also worked with a number of educational charities and NGOs.

Having attended an all girls’ school before studying at the University of Durham, Rebecca is passionate about the benefits of single sex education and securing the best leaders to further enhance and develop the lives of young people.
