Half Term and a successful Open Morning

It seems incredible that it is already half term and so much has already been happening in school. Huge thanks to you all and your daughters for supporting our annual Open Day on Saturday. I was so delighted to see the pride with which girls were showing visitors around the school and to hear the warm compliments about the personality, kindness and confidence of the girls and the brilliant relationships between teachers and students. Of course, this is something we know ourselves, but it is lovely to have it recognised by others. We had record numbers of visitors in both Seniors and Juniors with over 800 people coming through the doors of Blackheath High; so interest in the school continues to grow which is very pleasing.

We began our commemoration of the centenary of the Armistice with the staging of ‘Oh What a Lovely War!’ at the Senior School this week. A vast number of girls have been involved in the production and it was a pleasure to see so many families in the audience over the two performance nights. There were just too many special moments and highlights to mention here, but massive congratulations to all involved in the performance and staging of a really memorable and special production. You will also have received a letter from Mrs Pheiffer about the opportunity to sponsor a poppy to be planted in Mycenae Terrace to mark Armistice Day (still available on Firefly). Poppies can be personalised to commemorate family members and should form a  beautiful visual memorial for the girls to appreciate, so I hope you feel this is a project you would like to support. Our Senior School formal Armistice Assembly will take place on Friday 9th November, so please do talk to the girls about it.

I wish you and the girls all the best for a relaxing half term. I hope those of you with daughters in Year 13 do not have too much UCAS personal statement related stress and we look forward to seeing the girls refreshed and ready for the second half of term on the 29th.
