Our Year 6 voyage to France

On Monday 11 June, all of Year 6 from Junior School set off on our voyage to France. We took the Eurotunnel from Dover to Calais, then it was a short drive to Hardelot where we stayed for the rest of the week. That evening, we went to a local beach and played some games. It was really enjoyable and the surrounding scenery was beautiful as it was at dusk.

On Tuesday, the fun could not start soon enough! After breakfast, we were off to the Etaples Military Cemetery where many of us were searching for family members. After this, we went to Etaples market where we purchased ingredients in little groups to make our lunch. Once we had finished shopping for ingredients, we had some time to spend our pocket money. Then we dashed back to the PGL Centre to prepare our lunch. After a little bit of downtime, we were put in teams to complete four ‘Round the World’ challenges at the Centre.

On Wednesday, we went to Boulogne and did a town trail, followed by ice creams and a play on the beach. After this, we went to the famous aquarium Nausicaa. It was magical, topped off by a spectacular sea lion show. Crepe-making that evening rounded off a great day.

Thursday was probably the best day of all. We started by going to the chocolate factory where we got to see how they hand craft their chocolate. We also had the opportunity to taste and buy some. After this, we went to the goat farm and made bread that contained goat’s milk and was in the shape of a goat! We also got to go and see the goats and milk them. They had lots of tiny baby goats that we could hold. Next, we got to try some handmade goat’s cheese and buy some. Soon enough, it was time to shower and get ready for the disco!

On Friday, we went to the hypermarket to finish off our money and then sadly, before we knew it, we were back in Blackheath. We were tired but had memories that will stay with us forever!
