Women in Maths and Computer Science

To inspire students, Blackheath High School hosted a 'Women in Maths and Computer Science' careers event. Held on 15 March during STEAM week, the careers evening was part of a series of 'Women in...' events which have been running annually.

Speakers included Sue Kershaw (Managing Director of Major Project Advisory at KPMG), Raia Hadsell (Senior Research Scientist at Google DeepMind who inspired students with her talk on artificial intelligence and robotics) and Takita Bartlett (a mathematician who designs jewellery and clothing and uses fashion as a platform to engage more young people in STEM subjects). After some inspirational talks, there was a networking session with people from the wider field of Maths and Computer Science, giving students an opportunity to gain an inside into the industry.
