Debating at the ISMLA "Joutes Oratoires"

A long standing tradition for the French Department is to take Sixth Formers to the annual ISMLA "Joutes Oratoires" competition. This year, Blackheath High School entered two teams from Year 12 who debated in French on the topics of independence for New Caledonia, state funding for independent schools in France and the banning of the sale of bottled water.

We were very proud of our girls who, after just a term and a half of A-level studies, were able to eloquently argue the debate motions in a second language. We narrowly missed out on qualification to the next round but left pleased with the our performance.
