Senior School Redevelopment Project
To support the improvement of the physical environment of the School, plans were approved by the London Borough of Greenwich in January 2015 for the refurbishment and redevelopment of various parts of our Senior School site at Vanbrugh Park. The building works commenced in the Autumn Term 2015 with the renovation of Westcombe House.
As part of The Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), we are committed to investing in the physical environment of our school, to create the best possible surroundings for our pupils to develop and reach their full potential.
We have been working with architects, EWA, to review the existing building on Vanbrugh Park and assess what is needed to improve and update the school’s facilities.
The school and the GDST are making a substantial investment to ensure that they match the high standard of education it provides for the benefit of existing and future students.
An overview of the refurbishment and redevelopment of the site is shown in the video at the foot of this page. The following parts of the site will be improved:
Phase 1 – Autumn 2015 – Easter 2016
- The internal refurbishment of the existing Main Entrance Building, to create a new Sixth Form Centre.
Phase 2 – Summer 2016 – Summer 2018
- The construction of a new Art/DT/Music Wing to replace the current building
- The construction of a new, three storey Main Entrance Building and exhibition space between the Dance Studio and the current Main Entrance Building.
- Building a new Learning Resources Centre, which will be sunk into a new lower ground floor created under the present site.
- A larger Changing Room for P.E.
The school will remain operational throughout the proposed build, which will be phased over three years and managed to minimise disruption to pupils and local residents. The GDST’s Estates team is highly experienced in managing complex construction projects so that they have a minimum effect on both the school and the local community.
All the appropriate surveys have been undertaken or instructed to assess key aspects relating to the project, such as ecology, traffic, tree, energy and noise surveys.
A working party for local residents has been set up and meets regularly to discuss the project as it proceeds.
A public exhibition was originally held on the evening of Friday 28th February 2014 and the morning of Saturday 1st March 2014, and we were encouraged by the positive feedback received from these events.
We will keep you updated on developments and will continue to engage with parents and local residents about the project.
We welcome your feedback using the downloadable Feedback Form at the bottom of this page.
