Maths in Motion Club

Maths in Motion Club is for girls from Years 5 and 6 and participates in the ‘Cars Maths in Motion™ Challenge’ established by Jaguar in 2000.   It is the largest maths challenge of its kind in the UK and is an innovative, creative activity which promotes Maths and increases the girls’ enthusiasm for the subject.  The girls are tasked with setting up a virtual racing car to compete on a circuit against other schools.  The team has to use all their mathematical expertise to accurately measure the length of the track, the angles of the bends and consider other factors such as fuel load, tyres and speeds.  This data is then entered into computer simulation software and all the challengers eventually race against each other.  Each racing car is shown as a name on the screen and the race is accompanied by visual commentary. This year our team made the competition finals and came 2nd in their age range and 11th overall - even beating 15 Senior school teams!

We are delighted that, for the second year running, our 'Jaguar Maths in Motion' team  made it through to the National Final on 26th June 2013.

Our Junior Team finished third in their age group and also finished ahead of 17 Senior school teams! This fantastic result, in a competition that started with over 1000 schools, is a fantastic achievement for all of our girls.
